2000 Trees 2014: Canterbury // More acts announced

Canterbury are among the 10 acts that were announced today for 2000 trees. They’re from the border of Surrey and Hampshire, last time I featured them I came out with this bit of word porn-

… in the vein of Sharks and Twin Atlantic with the almost prescient cultivation of a musical hook with acutely accurate guitars and, while Math Rock could easily have been the path they’d chosen they thankfully stay away while retaining the more intelligent aspects of that genre and bringing an untold smash of other influences together to create something significant.

There’s definite evolution from the magnificent music these guys were pouring out when I first heard them in 2011, riding the crest of a wave from the unimaginable popularity of their free to download debut which was followed by tours with pretty much any great band from the genre you can think of.

“Why are we still singing, when it would be easier to scream?”

The opening track of their third album, released last month is the perfect exhibit of this progression, an atmospheric slow build into a lyrically and musically professional masterpiece. More Billy Talent meets 30 seconds to mars these days than Fenix*TX and Alexisonfire‘s lovechild and the better for it, I mean these tracks would have no problems filling arenas.

They’re steadily playing bigger venues and bigger festivals. This band is on an ascension to untold successes so catch them before you can’t.
