Album of the year runner up: Stornoway- Beach Comber’s Windowsill

Local inclusion and deservedly so. Stornoway are brilliant but the album left off a few great tracks from their early career and Fuel Up is included so  I don’t see why they’re not on here really but still that’s a great track too, anyway they’re folk if ya dig?

Stornoway

Stornoway’s album has recently become available. The first thing that struck me was that I’ve got all of the songs already and I don’t know whether it’s because i’m local as most are from different sources but my thoughts on this are as follows. An album ideally should capture a period of a band’s career and rather than being some huge production the original opus should ideally chronicle their rise to releasing their debut and having listened to these songs for a while now I think it captures that perfectly.

Pupil of your eye isn’t included on the album and this is probably due to it sounding “a bit different” in places than the rest of their music but that’s why I loved it so much still it doesn’t take away from it. complete with three way harmonies and local references. Zorbing tends to be the track that I tend to point people towards when originally getting into them but apart the album do check out “Pupil of your eye”, “you don’t know anything” and Unfaithful as otherwise you do miss out a little from this snapshot of time.
