Metric (grow up and blow away)

Metric– Grow up and blow away

The story of Metric’s phantom debut album is quite an interesting one; recorded at the start of the millenium before being shelved and eventually dismissed due to their sound having changed to such an extent it was thought not representative of them.

Fair enough, this kind of thing does happen, often eventually forming part of another album (case point- Red Hot Chili Peppers Rockappotamous) however their new debut album was of completely new material, the magnificent Old World Underground. Fast forward to 2007 when it was re-released with little fanfare and the first few listens you think, yeah this doesn’t sound like Metric. A few more lessons and you think, this is actually an amazing album. And it is.

Parkdale is just incredible but there’s as many great tracks as there is on OWU and they’ve been opening up recent shows with the title track of this album, seems this gem is finally getting its time in the spotlight.
