Truck 2010 Part I

Alright son, daughter, father and mother truckers alike, the first 13 acts to play my favourite festival of the summer have been announced! I shall be posting them pretty much in the order of my knowledge of the bands…

Little Fish

One of my fondest memories of truck 2008 was waking up to the apocolyptic screams of Julia “Juju” Sophie battling her guitar to see who can produce the most life affirming wails accompanied by the incessant pounding of Neil “Nez” Greenaway’s skins.

Since then they’ve honed their raw, tribal live shows playing with Brody Dalle, Josh Homme, Regina Spektor and Alice in chains as well as staying true to their Oxford roots and getting more immense with every show.

Los Campesinos

If there’s one band that can be described as mind-blowingly pleasant it’s Cardiff’s Los Campesinos. They produce comforting, eternal youth promoting pop which has just enough darkness to stop it being overbearingly sugary.

They’re pretty hard to keep up with as since their inception in 2006 they’ve constantly delivered their brand of indie dance floor filling “TweeCore”. I’ve often thought of going to see them but am glad they’re coming to us this summer as they represent what festivals should be about.

Stornoway

A more extensive write up of mine on Stornoway can be found here. For people who don’t know too much about them, they’re Oxford’s current favourite sons and fit nicely between the pop of Darwin Deez and the folk of Mumford and sons.

MP3s: Stornoway don’t really have any readily available mp3s and most blogs have been asked to take them down so check out their myspace.

Mew

Mew are considered one of the greatest live acts of modern times, the Danes having been in the game for over 15 years now. They’re absolutely adored by their fans and revered by casual listeners. They DO sound nice, really nice; it’s extremely ambient stuff like it’d be great to go to sleep to every night and isn’t too in your face.
